The Physical Education Department in collaboration with the NSS Unit of Government Degree College Hajin celebrated International Yoga Day on June 21, 2024, under the global theme "Yoga for Self and Society." This year's theme highlighted yoga's dual benefits of enhancing personal well-being and developing a harmonious society. Prof. (Dr) Peer Zahoor Ahmad, the principal, graced the celebration. The yoga session was instructed by Dr Saqib Bashir, the college's Physical Training Instructor. A large number of students and staff members attended the event, which intended to promote the holistic health advantages of yoga.
The principal of the college, Prof. (Dr) Peer Zahoor Ahmad described Yoga as an ancient practice initially adopted in India for health and well-being. He said this practice has transcended cross borders and cultures and is thus accepted globally for its health benefits.
The day's highlight was a yoga session led by Dr Saqib Bashir, the college's Physical Training Instructor. He led the participants through a series of yoga poses (asanas), breathing exercises (pranayama), and meditation techniques. He designed the program to be accessible to both new and seasoned practitioners, ensuring that everyone could participate and benefit.
Dr Saqib Bashir began the course by providing a brief history and philosophy of Yoga. He then guided the group through several yoga postures, emphasizing the significance of proper alignment and breathing. The practice featured basic asanas including Tadasana (Mountain Pose), Vrikshasana (Tree Pose), and more intermediate postures like Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose) and Trikonasana (Triangle Pose). The activity culminated with a guided meditation designed to promote relaxation and mental clarity. The program concluded with a vote of thanks presented by one of the senior faculty members, Prof (Dr) Mehraj Hajini, who expressed gratitude to all the participants and organizers.
A large number of students and all the faculty members took a keen interest in this Yoga celebration with utmost dedication and devotion.
