GDC Hajin organized a one-day awareness programme on “World No Tobacco Day”.
The Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan Committee, in collaboration with the NSS Unit of the Govt. Degree College Hajin organized a one-day awareness programme in the college seminar hall to commemorate World No Tobacco Day on the theme of “Protecting Children from Tobacco Industry Interference”. At the beginning of the programme, the principal of the college, Prof (Dr) Zahoor Ahmad, urged the students not to consume tobacco because it harms people's health. He called on the students to serve as anti-tobacco campaign ambassadors and to educate their families about the dangers of tobacco use. During the programme, Prof (Dr) Mehraj Hajini, Head of the Department of Political Science, delivered a comprehensive talk on the negative impacts of tobacco use. He also stated that smoking cigarettes is the most common form of tobacco consumption and that men and women consume tobacco in a variety of ways in contemporary times. During the programme, Dr Firdous Ahmad Paray, Head of the Department of Kashmiri, gave a detailed presentation about how today's youth are being involved in tobacco smoking. He emphasized that cigarettes contain several recognized carcinogens that can cause cancer in many bodily areas such as the mouth, oesophagus, lungs, and stomach. He stressed on importance of prohibiting the sale of tobacco products to minors and increasing awareness programs to prevent youths from smoking. During the occasion, the college's principal designated the campus as a tobacco-free zone. The programme was organized by the convenor of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan Committee, Mr Adnan Rashid Lone and was moderated by Mr Javeed Ahmad Raina. The formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Fayrooz Ahmad Mir. A large number of students and all the faculty members of the college participated in the event.
