To celebrate Earth Day 2024, the Department of Environmental Science, in collaboration with the NSS Unit of GDC Hajin, conducted a painting/drawing competition with the topic "Planet vs Plastic" on April 25, 2024. Many students from different semesters of the college participated and demonstrated their talent in the competition. Using various paintings, the students brought attention to the issue of plastic pollution and its impact on our ecosystem. The jury members examined the students' paintings, and Miss Shaista Shafi of BG 2nd Sem secured first place in the competition, while Miss Aabida Ramzan of BG 2nd Sem and Miss Tasleema Bano of BG 2nd Sem got second and third, respectively.

During the competition's valedictory ceremony, the college's principal, Prof. (Dr) Peer Zahoor Ahmad, emphasized the need to minimize plastic use to protect our environment from degradation. Mr. Adnan Rashid, HoD Environmental Science, informed the students that plastic, particularly single-use plastic, has become a menace to the ecosystem. He stressed that the plastic we use in our daily life not only damages the soil and aquatic habitat but also turns into microplastics, which enter the body and cause a variety of health issues such as heart disease and cancer. The principal of the college presented the competition winners with prizes and certificates.

Dr Mehraj Hajini, Dr Falak Fayrooz, Miss Nahid Naseem, Dr Firdous, and Mr. Naseer Ahmad were present during the event.
